Did you know that the consumption of meat has been linked to osteoporosis?
It seems animal proteins are digested in our bodies in a way that is not copacetic for bone health. But, what is the scientific evidence out there: Does eating meat directly cause osteoporosis? And what can meat-eaters do to reduce these risks? One in two women and one in eight men will have an osteoporosis-related injury in their lifetime—will it be you? Read on to find out.
Proteins, Acids and Calcium
Animal proteins—beef, lamb, pork, chicken—contain sulfur that creates acid in our bodies when we digest them. A slightly acidic condition called acidosis occurs, which changes the pH of our bloodstream. One of the body’s common ways to reduce this acidity is by using calcium phosphate (which comes from our bones) to buffer the pH back to a normal range. This process of calcium coming from the bones to balance acidity caused from animal proteins is thought to cause—or contribute to—osteoporosis.
Research Supporting the Meat-Osteoporosis Connection

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) recently set out to test the effects of meat consumption on bone health. Measures they studied included acid excretion and urinary calcium—two factors that show the acidity caused by animal protein and the leaching of calcium from the body to buffer it on the way out. Researchers found, as expected, that those eating meat had more calcium leaving their bodies than the vegans in the study. The NIH concluded that this model of meat consumption could lead to a lower amount of bone formation in the meat-eaters, as well as a long-term decrease in bone density.

The Harvard School of Public Health cites a popular Nurses’ Health Study as a reference for the meat-osteoporosis connection. In this study, a large pool of participants following a high-protein (animal-based) diet was found to have weaker bones over the long-term. The school is quick to point out, however, that the studies are merely suggestive at this point, and further research needs to be done to see exactly how meat affects bone health.
Additional studies have also shown a correlation between meat consumption and compromised bone health, ranging from increased risk of hip fractures, arm fractures and increased loss of bone density. The correlation, interesting to note, is not just high protein and calcium leaching, but that of animal protein in particular. In certain studies, the bones appear to benefit by replacing some of the animal proteins with plant proteins.

What You Can Do to Protect Your Bones
As researchers have pointed out in the Journal of Nutrition, the consumption of vegetables and plant proteins safeguards against the effects of urinary calcium because of the incredible doses of nutrients they provide—antioxidants, vitamins and isoflavones, to name just a few. It appears to the researchers that the problem with animal proteins is that they tend to lack such a powerful constitution of such vital nutrients. The solution? Eat more plants.

Experts at Harvard recommend simply eating more fresh fruits and vegetables each day in order to pack in the nutrients that protect against bone loss (magnesium and potassium especially appear to be protective). And, of course, they recommend we eat fewer processed foods, if for no other reason, to get away from all of the extra sodium in them. Excess sodium intake has been linked to an increase in urinary calcium loss, so steer for fresh ingredients with few additives when dining out and shopping.

NaturalNews) The vaccine-pushing, disease scare-mongering agency known as the CDC has put out a stunning piece of propaganda attacking fresh milk (raw dairy), claiming it is "150 times more dangerous" than pasteurized milk. This is all part of their anti-American agenda to crush food freedom and criminalize fundamental farming practices upon which this very nation was founded. (Yes, George Washington and the founding fathers drank raw milk, grew hemp and even smoked a little weed as medicine.)

But what the CDC won't dare reveal to the public is the far more horrifying truth: Pasteurized dairy is produced in the dirtiest milk factories imaginable, where blood, pus, e.coli and other truly dangerous pathogens are routinely bottled into milk containers and fed to consumers.
That's the whole point of pasteurization, you see: To kill everything that might be alive in their ultra-dirty milk. The real purpose of pasteurization is not to simply "make milk safe" as is claimed by the CDC, but rather to allow the dairy industry to operate DIRTY. It's so much easier to just cook the crap out of the milk (yes, there's fecal matter in it) than to clean up their operations, get it?

The theory about sodium bicarbonate does make sense. Researchers all over the world have found that cancer cells do tend to favor/require an acidic pH environment. In fact, cancer cells cannot function in an alkaline environment. Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) is known to be a powerful buffering agent, and also works to alkalize the body, thereby getting rid of acidic conditions in the body. In fact, when the sodium bicarbonate hits the cancer cells, the alkalinity also brings a burst of oxygen into them. From previous information, we know that tumor cells do not like oxygen, and that they function off of anaerobic respiration. Cancer cells die in the presence of high oxygen levels. The medical establishment does not like substances like sodium bicarbonate because it is safe, cheap, widely available and highly effective against cancer.
Even if sodium bicarbonate is only slightly effective against cancer, it is not dangerous or poisonous like chemotherapy drugs, radiation therapy or surgery. In a worst case scenario, no harm would be done by the use of baking soda as a cancer treatment. Baking soda (pH of 9+) does not require a prescription, is available from your local grocery store or drug store, and is many times safer than chemotherapy or radiation therapy. The only thing to be careful of with sodium bicarbonate is that it should not be taken when you recently eaten (2 hours from food), as it can & does produce gas & alter the pH of your stomach etal for ideal digestion, which can damage the stomach. You really owe it to yourself and to your loved ones to learn more about sodium bicarbonate, as it is a wonderful substance that is really a natural part of the body.
What does it mean for a solution to be acidic or basic (alkaline)?
It all has to do with hydrogen ions (abbreviated with the chemical symbol H+). In water (H2O), a small number of the molecules dissociate (split up). Some of the water molecules lose a hydrogen and become hydroxyl ions (OH−). The "lost" hydrogen ions join up with water molecules to form hydronium ions (H3O+). For simplicity, hydronium ions are referred to as hydrogen ions H+. In pure water, there are an equal number of hydrogen ions and hydroxyl ions. The solution is neither acidic or basic.
An acid is a substance that donates hydrogen ions. Because of this, when an acid is dissolved in water, the balance between hydrogen ions and hydroxyl ions is shifted. Now there are more hydrogen ions than hydroxyl ions in the solution. This kind of solution is acidic.
A base is a substance that accepts hydrogen ions. When a base is dissolved in water, the balance between hydrogen ions and hydroxyl ions shifts the opposite way. Because the base "soaks up" hydrogen ions, the result is a solution with more hydroxyl ions than hydrogen ions. This kind of solution is alkaline.
Acidity and alkalinity are measured with a logarithmic scale called pH. Here's why: a strongly acidic solution can have one hundred million million (100,000,000,000,000) times more hydrogen ions than a strongly basic solution! The flip side, of course, is that a strongly basic solution can have 100,000,000,000,000 times more hydroxide ions than a strongly acidic solution. Moreover, the hydrogen ion and hydroxide ion concentrations in everyday solutions can vary over that entire range.
In order to deal with these large numbers more easily, scientists use a logarithmic scale, the pH scale. Each one-unit change in the pH scale corresponds to a ten-fold change in hydrogen ion concentration. The pH scale ranges from 0 to 14. It's a lot easier to use a logarithmic scale instead of always having to write down all those zeros! By the way, notice how one hundred million million is a one with fourteen zeros after it? It's not coincidence, it's logarithms! To be more precise, pH is the negative logarithm of the hydrogen ion concentration: pH = log 1/[H+ = −log [H+]] .

The statistics show that no more people are surviving now than 25 years ago. Both chemotherapy and radiation injure the immune system which is vital for surviving cancer.

The cancer cartel has no interest in curing cancer because chemotherapy drugs are an enormously profitable product for the pharmaceutical industry. An important clue proving that there is no sincere interest in curing cancer is provided by the fact that only .5% (one half of one percent) of the dollars spent on cancer research is spent on research directed at stopping the spread[2] of cancer (metastases). When a cancer fails to spread the patient can live many comfortable years in an uneventful manner.

A growing body of medical research at leading universities and government laboratories suggests that processed foods and sugary drinks made by the likes of PepsiCo Inc. and Kraft Foods Inc. aren’t simply unhealthy. They can hijack the brain in ways that resemble addictions to cocaine, nicotine and other drugs.
“Available compelling data is so overwhelming the violators, politicians & even regulators have to accept it,” said Nora Volkow, director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse. “We are finding tremendous overlap between drugs in the brain and food in the brain.”
Is gorging on a bag of nacho cheese-flavored corn chips, or a Hostess Chocolate Pudding Pie, 1 pie 520 calories, 45 g sugars, 24 g fat (14 g saturated, 1.5 g trans) for instance, the same as snorting a line of cocaine? A number of scientific studies, many of which were conducted within the past year, have found that junk food addiction is essentially the same as cocaine addiction, at least as far as the brain is concerned.

Bloomberg Businessweek reports on a plethora of recent data that identifies junk food addiction as being just as serious as drug addiction. High-fructose corn syrup (HFCS), monosodium glutamate (MSG), hydrogenated oils, refined salt, and various other chemical preservatives found in processed junk food does the same thing to a person's brain as cocaine does.

A 2010 study conducted by scientists at Scripps Research Institute (SRI) in Florida found that rats given free access to Hormel Foods Corp. bacon, Sara Lee Corp. pound cake, The Cheesecake Factory Inc. cheesecake, and Pillsbury Co. Creamy Supreme cake frosting, experienced significant changes in brain activity and function -- and these changes mirrored those that occur in the brains of drug addicts.
Another study conducted by researchers at both the University of Texas in Austin (UT) and the Oregon Research Inst. found that prolonged consumption of junk foods results in reduced activity in the striatum, a section of the forebrain that registers reward. In other words, just like with illicit drugs, those addicted to junk food require ever-increasing amounts of it to get the same "high."

"The data is so overwhelming the field has to accept it," said Nora Volkow, director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) concerning the findings. "We are finding tremendous overlap between drugs in the brain and food in the brain." In a correlative study, researchers identified a similarity in dopamine production levels between drug addicts and junk food addicts. Addiction to either one essentially causes the brain receptors that receive dopamine signals to lose their responsiveness. As a result, addicts require increasing amounts of the addictive substance to receive the same level of satisfaction.

Since processed foods, along with many "Fast Foods & Fried Foods" are loaded with synthetic chemical additives, they are technically drugs themselves. So it is no wonder that millions of people around the world are addicted to them.
The idea that food may be addictive was barely on scientists’ radar a decade ago. Now the field is heating up. Lab studies have found sugary drinks and fatty foods can produce addictive behavior in animals. Brain scans of obese people and compulsive eaters, meanwhile, reveal disturbances in brain reward circuits similar to those experienced by drug abusers.

Cost to Society - The cost to society is enormous. A 2009 study of 900,000 people, published in The Lancet, found that moderate obesity reduces life expectancy by 2-4 years, while severe obesity shortens life expectancy by as much as 10 years. Obesity has been shown to boost the risk of heart disease, diabetes, some cancers, osteoarthritis, sleep apnea and stroke, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The costs of treating illness associated with obesity were estimated at $147 billion in 2008, according to a 2009 study in Health Affairs.
Sugars and fats, of course, have always been present in the human diet and our bodies are programmed to crave them. What has changed is modern processing that creates food with concentrated levels of sugars, unhealthy fats and refined flour, without redeeming levels of fiber or nutrients, obesity experts said. Consumption of large quantities of those processed foods may be changing the way the brain is wired.

A Lot Like Addiction - Those changes look a lot like addiction to some experts. Addiction “is a loaded term, but there are aspects of the modern diet that can elicit behavior that resembles addiction,” said David Ludwig, a Harvard researcher and director of the New Balance Foundation Obesity Prevention Center at Children’s Hospital Boston. Highly processed foods may cause rapid spikes and declines in blood sugar, increasing cravings,
his research has found.
Education, diets and drugs to treat obesity have proven largely ineffective and the new science of obesity may explain why, proponents say. Constant stimulation with tasty, calorie-laden foods may desensitize the brain’s circuitry, leading people to consume greater quantities of junk food to maintain a constant state of pleasure.

About 80% of Purchase, NY-based PepsiCo’s marketing budget, for instance, is directed toward pushing salty snacks and sodas. Although cos. are quick to point to their healthier offerings, their top execs are constantly called upon to reassure investors those sales of snack foods and sodas are showing steady growth. “We want to see profit growth and revenue growth,” said Tim Hoyle, director of research at Haverford Trust Co. in Radnor, PA, an investor in PepsiCo, the world’s largest snack-food maker. “The health foods are good for headlines but when it gets down to it, the growth drivers are the comfort foods, the Tostitos and the Pepsi-Cola.”
Little wonder that the food ind. is pushing hard on the idea that the best way to get a handle on obesity is through voluntary measures and by offering healthier choices. The same tactic worked for awhile, decades ago, for the tobacco industry, which deflected attention from the health risks and addictive nature of cigarettes with “low tar and nicotine” marketing.

Fluoridated tap water and toothpaste are oftentimes considered the main sources of fluoride exposure, but it turns out that common food items could actually be largely contributing to your fluoride intake. According to fluoride expert Jeff Green, who has been actively protesting and studying the effects of fluoride on the body for other 15 years, one common food product contains up to 180 times more fluoride than your fluoridated tap water!

According to Green, the culprit is non-organic food, but not just one kind. If you’re still eating conventionally-farmed food products, you may be unknowingly exposing yourself to extreme levels of fluoride. Green says this is made possible by fluoride going incognito within the food supply in a very concerning way:

• “Cryolite is actually sodium aluminum fluoride… This sodium aluminum fluoride is especially effective at killing bugs,” Green says. “It’s also very sticky, so when they spray it, it’s more likely to stick on your produce, unless you’re… really working at trying to get it off of it.”
• Fluoride-Based Pesticide Contaminating Food Staples
• While Green states that a large number of non-organic produce items can contain shocking levels of this fluoride-based pesticide, iceberg lettuce may be one of the largest offenders. In fact, iceberg lettuce can now be laced with a startling 180 parts per million (ppm) of fluoride – 180 times higher than the ‘recommended’ water fluoridation level. This ‘health’ food could actually be corroding your body with heavy levels of fluoride. But what other seemingly-healthy produce items contain high amounts of fluoride?
• Citrus fruits are actually allowed to contain 95 ppm’s of sodium fluoride.
• Potatoes can have as much as 22 ppm’s on the outside, and 2 ppm inside.
• Raisins are allowed 55 ppm’s.

Fluoride has been linked to decreased IQ in children, and even the United States government is calling for lower levels of fluoride to be added to United States water supplies. Perhaps the next big hurdle in the fight against fluoride will be within the food industry.

Deadly strains of the antibiotic-resistant bacteria MRSA (methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus) are present in the nation’s meat supply, according to a new report published in the journal PLoS ONE titled, “MRSA in Conventional and Alternative Retail Pork Products.”
A partnership between the University of Iowa College of Public Health and the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy conducted the largest U.S. survey of retail meat. The study looked at nearly 400 samples of various pork products collected throughout supermarkets in Iowa, Minnesota and New Jersey. Nearly 7 percent of the samples contained detectable levels of MRSA. According to lead study author Tara Smith, Ph.D., interim director of the UI Center for Emerging and Infectious Diseases and assistant professor of epidemiology, “This study shows that the meat we buy in our grocery stores has a higher prevalence of staph than we originally thought.”
The study made another surprising discovery: There was no notable difference in the levels of MRSA contamination between conventionally raised pork products and those claiming to be raised without antibiotics or other drugs. “We were surprised to see no significant difference in antibiotic-free and conventionally produced pork,” said Smith.
Some 185,000 cases of food poisoning are caused by MRSA in the U.S. each year, and the bacteria, which are extremely difficult to treat because of resistance to antibiotics, can lead to life-threatening infections.
The study researchers hope that the findings will help lead to recommendations for safer handling methods of all raw meat products, not just for the end consumer, but also in slaughtering and processing the animals, where much of the contamination is believed to occur.

Extracts from green tea may prevent the formation of mouth cancers in people with risk signs of the disease, according to a new study from Texas.
Over 50% of participants in the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center study experienced a clinical response to the green tea extracts, according to findings published in Cancer Prevention Research.
“While still very early, and not definitive proof that green tea is an effective preventive agent, these results certainly encourage more study for patients at highest risk for oral cancer,” lead researcher Vassiliki Papadimitrakopoulou, MD.
“The extract's lack of toxicity is attractive - in prevention trials, it's very important to remember that these are otherwise healthy individuals and we need to ensure that agents studied produce no harm,” he added.
The study was funded by Ito En and using the company’s green tea extract.
Green tea contains between 30 and 40 per cent of water-extractable polyphenols, while black tea (green tea that has been oxidized by fermentation) contains between 3 and 10 per cent. Oolong tea is semi-fermented tea and is somewhere between green and black tea.
The four primary polyphenols found in fresh tealeaves are epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), epigallocatechin (EGC), epicatechin gallate (ECG), and epicatechin (EC).
Phase II stats
The study, a phase II dose-finding trial, followed 41 people with oral leukoplakia, a condition is a sign of oral cancer risk. The participants were assigned to receive either placebo or green tea extract at one of three doses, including 500 milligrams per metre squared of body mass (mg/m2), 750 mg/m2, or 1,000 mg/m2 three times a day.
The researchers collected oral tissue biopsies, which they say was “essential in that it allowed us to learn that not only did the green tea extract appear to have benefit for some patients, but we pointed to anti-angiogenic effects as a potential mechanism of action,” explained co-researcher Anne Tsao, MD.

Almost 60 per cent of people taking the two highest doses of the green tea extracts had a clinical response. Just over 36 per cent of people in the lowest extract dose group had a clinical response, compared to 18 per cent in the placebo group, said the researchers.
At an extended follow-up with a mean of 27.5 months, 15 participants had developed oral cancer, with a median time to disease development of 46.4 months.
Commenting on the safety, the researchers noted that side effects such as insomnia and nervousness were mostly only recorded in the high-dose group. None of these produced no significant toxicity, they added.
“While these are encouraging findings, much more research must be done before we can conclude that green tea may prevent oral or any other type of cancer. It's also important to remind people that this trial enrolled very few participants who, at the highest dose levels took the equivalent of eight cups of green tea three times a day,” cautioned Papadimitrakopoulo.
“We need to further understand if green tea offers longer-term prevention effects for patients,” he added.

Next stage of study
Future studies with such high-risk people investigate the effects of longer supplementation periods, said the researchers.
According to the American Cancer Society, more than 35,720 are expected to be diagnosed with oral and/or pharynx cancer and the five year survival rate is less than 50 per cent.
